Dream Discovery 101 Core requirement
|
Has your guardian angel been staring inside your head wondering
..."where is she...I know she's here somewhere." Well, you are. You just need to get
outside of yourself so you can view the real you. You do this to gain perspective and a
pinch of objectivity. Hollywood and Madison Avenue have let the artist inside of you
have a field day with your self image and yes, it would be cool to be all those things but
"collaging" your image makes for a hodge-podge life. Since you've adopted so many
over and under-lapping layers of image snippets it's no wonder your navigator instinct
is all over the map trying to steer you to happy. Since happy is your default setting use
your feeling of discontent as a measure of how far you have wandered from your ideal
life path. Confused and dazed? Well duh! Okay, let's fix it.
Take out a clean sheet of paper or open a new document and begin with your goals.
Start with categories and they'll prompt your imagination. Spring-break, Part-time Job,
Car, Boyfriend, Dream-Date, House/Apartment, Career, Friendship, Spiritual, Family,
Hobby. Now write a little dream description for each. Really go for it - dream a little.
Part-time Job
Springbreak
Co-producing an on-campus
festival/fund raiser for
Children's Make-A-Wish
Foundation where I get to
interview talent acts and help
stage their performances and
meet some really amazing
new people.
Cancun, 10 days in a cabana on
the beach, white sand, green
calm water, walking distance
from the best clubs and a great
fresh food market with (name
your friends) and have enough
money to spend and meet a
really cute guy who is an
excellent kisser. Oh yea!
House/Apartment
Dream-Date
Close to campus and the bars
and the market. Have my own
bathroom, big kitchen, internet
that works. Heated garage!
Water bed, wash machine and
dryer, on a lake - with a boat!
more on this...
Fly away as the sun is setting to
Hawaii where we spend time
whale watching from a yacht,
drinking pina coladas and I
don't throw -up, more on this...
Boyfriend
Spiritual
Sensitive
Good Listener
Not a mean drunk
Very funny
Mature but not too
Not self obsorbed
Car that runs
Not moody
Mildly attractive - okay, Really!
more on this - a lot more...
Family
Really need to get back to my
roots before they begin
sprouting from my tombstone -
ooh! More on this.
Need to spend a week every
summer on a vacation with them
just like when we were little. I
need to get everyone on the
same page - do some e-mails,
get something on the summer
calendar set up before it's fall
again and Janie moves out to
Colorado. Hiking and canoeing
and camping
Car
How about one that runs for
a change - get back to this
later.
Okay - the little hybrid one?
Light blue do they make a
convertible?
Career
Chicago or San Francisco,
overlooking the water, dress
code that let's me be casual
and not dressed in suits all the
time. Making $45,000 to start!
Working in my own office but
still interacting with lots of
people but not constant
meetings. Easy commute to
where I live. Something that
really thrills me to wake up to -
something I really look forward
to. Something that fulfills me. I
wonder what it is?
Stop
Okay, enough for now. Put it
away for a day and come
back to it tomorrow. 24 hours
to sleep on it will give your
sub-conscious time to sift
through your "scrapbooks"
Tomorrow you'll have some
editing to do. Your guardian
angel will be impressed and
maybe have a few
suggestions of her own. Be
sure to use a lot of detail.
Picture it then describe it.
Friendship
A relationship that will last a
lifetime. Someone who will
respect me and I her.
Very Intelligent
Good sense of humor.
Can keep my secrets.
Someone who can help coach
out some of my bad habits.
A person I really feel at ease
with - she can read my mind.
She won't be critical but will
know when to be honest with
me.
Interest/Activity
Volleyball
Would like to assistant coach
elementary school sports at a
nearby school. I 'm going to
write a whole page on this -
gotta get to class.
"First comes thought; then
organization of that thought,
into ideas and plans; then
transformation of those plans
into reality. The beginning, as
you will observe, is in your
imagination."
Napolean Hill
"There will always be
dreams grander or
humbler than your own,
but there will never be
a dream exactly like
your own...for you are
unique and more
wondrous than you
know!"
Linda Staten
Once you have completed your creative descriptions with as much detail as you can visualize
you are ready for the next step: Identify the first baby step necessary to start the ball rolling to accomplish
the goal - no matter how large or seemingly unattainable the goal appears to be. Write it down then go
on-line and Google some of the parts of it. Next go to the library and do a little casual browsing in the
periodical (magazine) stacks. Pictures can be worth a thousand words (don't forget to Google "Images" too.)
Look at some pictures of your intention or activities that show it or articles written about it. Start to get a
feeling for what your ambitions look and feel like. It will become addictive, literally.
The mild euphoria you will experience is actually a natural drug being released into your
bloodstream by mother nature. It's her little booster rocket meant to propel you in the direction of your ideal
destiny. There are powerful systems at work here so recognize that you're seeing a new chapter in your life
beckoning you to turn pages and really move into your comfort zone. You are witnessing a turning point - a
major one that will energize your talents, sharpen your wits, put a spring in your step and make you a more
desirable person to be aligned with. If you don't already whistle - don't be surprised if you start. Life has
begun a grand parade for you to proudly march in. So get started with your topics. Pursuing your dreams is a
dream itself - go for it.
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." -Henry David Thoreau
